The flavour and texture of hot-smoked anchovy fillets might come as a surprise to anyone more accustomed to using minimal amounts of anchovies to add flavour to pasta sauces and fish stews.

Where the latter possess a strength of flavour that belies their size (in other words, less is more), these hot-smoked anchovies are terrific on toast, crackers or crispbreads for a light lunch or starter. They also excel in a leafy salad with hard-boiled eggs, green olives and tomatoes.

You can also use them as a substitute for standard anchovies – the deep smokiness brings another dimension to homemade pizza and puttanesca ragu.

The anchovies are caught in the eastern Mediterranean and hot smoked and packaged in Turkey. The fillets come preserved in sunflower oil in a sealed plastic tray. Drain the anchovies before eating.

The anchovy fillets have been cooked through the hot smoking process, so their shelf life is much longer than that of fresh fish. A packet may have a use-by date of several months. Keep refrigerated between 0˚C and 4˚C and consume within three days of opening. Suitable for freezing.

How We Package Your Fish and Seafood

1. We vacuum pack fish portions in pairs and whole fish individually. Scallops are also vacuum packed, while oysters and lobsters are placed in a box. 
2. Each portion is then clearly labelled with the species, who packed it, the date it was packed and a fresh use-by date.
3. We add frozen chill packs, which contain non-toxic gel, to a polystyrene box.
4. We pack your order so the chill packs distribute the cold evenly throughout your fish and seafood, ensuring maximum freshness.
5. We seal the box with packing tape and hand it to our courier, who will deliver it to you within 24 hours.
