Description

Also known as finnan haddie, these smoked fillets come with the skin and back fin – hence the name – for an extra-smoky flavour that will wake up even the most tired tastebuds.

We smoke our own finnan haddock fillets using a special combination of peat and green wood, a method with its roots in north-east Scotland.

Despite being smaller than its cousin cod, growing up to 1m in length, haddock is the undoubted star of fish and chip shops in northern England and Scotland, its flavour being slightly sweeter than cod. It’s this sweetness that makes haddock a favourite for smoking.

Whereas cod is bright white, haddock has a more muted appearance and is less flaky. It’s similarly adaptable, though, taking well to steaming, poaching, shallow or deep frying, or roasting in the oven.

Whether smoked or not, haddock works well in croquettes, fish cakes, gratins, mousses and fish pie. We strongly recommend trying our finnan haddock fillets in kedgeree – you’ll never look back.

Storage

Finnan haddock fillets are best eaten as fresh as possible. Keep refrigerated between 0˚C and 5˚C and consume within three days of delivery. If freezing, do so on the day of delivery and consume within two months. We recommend defrosting overnight in the fridge.

How We Package Your Fish and Seafood

1. We vacuum pack fish portions in pairs and whole fish individually. We vacuum pack scallops in quantities of 500g. Oysters and lobsters are placed in a box. 
2. Each portion is then clearly labelled with the species, who packed it, the date it was packed and a fresh use-by date.
3. We add frozen chill packs, which contain non-toxic gel, to a polystyrene box.
4. We pack your order so the chill packs distribute the cold evenly throughout your fish and seafood, ensuring maximum freshness.
5. We seal the box with packing tape and hand it to our courier, who will deliver it to you within 24 hours.

How much does delivery cost?

From Wednesday to Friday, delivery for orders under £60 costs £4.95. Orders over £60 qualify for free delivery.

On a Saturday, delivery for orders under £100 costs £9.99. Orders over £100 qualify for free delivery.

Which courier do you use and where do you deliver to?

We work with APC Direct and deliver anywhere on the UK mainland where 24-hour delivery is available.

When do you deliver?

Our delivery days are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Due to the nature of the fresh fish supply chain and to ensure you receive the freshest possible fish and seafood at an affordable price, we do not deliver on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.

Each product page clearly says where it comes from. We deal with a range of suppliers, including fish markets in north-east Scotland and reputable aquaculture businesses on the north-west coast of Scotland and in East Lothian. Freshness and quality mean everything to us and we only engage with partners who share our values.

Can you advise on the amount of fish to buy for a special occasion?
