Description

Kippers are smoked herring. Our whole kippers are supplied by the Port of Lancaster Smokehouse and have been awarded the maximum three gold stars in the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste awards.

To make these exceptional kippers, herring are split then smoked over a blend of hardwoods. Free from additives and dye, the fish are prepared with the central bone in place and vacuum-packed in pairs to ensure maximum flavour.

While pickled herring is consumed in vast quantities in Scandinavian countries, Germany and the Netherlands, in the UK we much prefer smoked herring. The traditional method of preparing kippers is under the grill, served with a knob of butter, either for breakfast or lunch. They can also be simmered in the bag they are packed in for around five minutes.

Kippers are brimming with goodness – they’re high in omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, protein, vitamin D and plenty more besides. So whether you lead an active lifestyle or simply want to look after your bones and cardiovascular system, eating kippers will pay dividends.

The kippers are landed in the north-east Atlantic Ocean.

Storage

Kippers are best eaten as fresh as possible. Keep refrigerated between 0˚C and 5˚C and consume within three days of delivery. If freezing, do so on the day of delivery and consume within two months. We recommend defrosting overnight in the fridge.

How We Package Your Fish and Seafood

1. We vacuum pack fish portions in pairs and whole fish individually. Scallops are also vacuum packed, while oysters and lobsters are placed in a box. 
2. Each portion is then clearly labelled with the species, who packed it, the date it was packed and a fresh use-by date.
3. We add frozen chill packs, which contain non-toxic gel, to a polystyrene box.
4. We pack your order so the chill packs distribute the cold evenly throughout your fish and seafood, ensuring maximum freshness.
5. We seal the box with packing tape and hand it to our courier, who will deliver it to you within 24 hours.

From Wednesday to Friday, delivery for orders under £40 costs £4.95. Orders over £40 qualify for free delivery.

On a Saturday, delivery for orders under £100 costs £9.99. Orders over £100 qualify for free delivery.

We work with APC Direct and deliver anywhere on the UK mainland where 24-hour delivery is available.

Our delivery days are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Due to the nature of the fresh fish supply chain and to ensure you receive the freshest possible fish and seafood at an affordable price, we do not deliver on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.

Each product page clearly says where it comes from. We deal with a range of suppliers, including fish markets in north-east Scotland and reputable aquaculture businesses on the north-west coast of Scotland and in East Lothian. Freshness and quality mean everything to us and we only engage with partners who share our values.
