Description
Monkfish is a creature of opposites. Despite being one of the ugliest species in the sea – with a huge flat head, wide gaping mouth and monstrous eyes – its tail yields some of the tastiest meat of any fish.
Firm and lean, the flesh is suitable for a variety of cooking methods, among them frying, grilling, barbecuing, poaching, roasting and steaming, and is rightly popular.
Monkfish hasn’t always been sought after, though. Until TV chef Keith Floyd began singing its praises in the mid-1980s, the species was mostly used to bulk out fish stews in restaurants or as a substitute for scampi. How things change. Thanks to its simple bone structure and forgiving flesh, monkfish has been a hugely favoured fish with chefs and home cooks alike for more than three decades and commands a correspondingly elevated price.
Low in calories and fat but high in flavour and texture, our fillets are ideal for special occasions or when you simply hanker for a touch of luxury.
Our monkfish are landed in the north-east Atlantic Ocean.

Monkfish fillets are best eaten as fresh as possible. Keep refrigerated between 0˚C and 5˚C and consume within three days of delivery. If freezing, do so on the day of delivery and consume within two months. We recommend defrosting overnight in the fridge.
How We Package Your Fish and Seafood
1. We vacuum pack fish portions in pairs and whole fish individually. Scallops are also vacuum packed, while oysters and lobsters are placed in a box.
2. Each portion is then clearly labelled with the species, who packed it, the date it was packed and a fresh use-by date.
3. We add frozen chill packs, which contain non-toxic gel, to a polystyrene box.
4. We pack your order so the chill packs distribute the cold evenly throughout your fish and seafood, ensuring maximum freshness.
5. We seal the box with packing tape and hand it to our courier, who will deliver it to you within 24 hours.
Safety Warning
Care has been taken to remove the bones from this fish, although some may still remain.
